Course Content
The course develops the theme of intercultural communication, the different levels that it implies as individuals, group and institutions. This last dimension is necessarily inscribed in the history of international relations. The difficulties of the "cultural"meeting between "the West" and the Muslim world is inscribed in a system of representations, which were defined as "Orientalism" and “Occidentalism”.

A basic knowledge of European and World history from the beginning of modernity.
Constant attention to current events (daily reading of newspapers).

Teaching Methods
Lectures, online courses in order to enlarge the contents of some topics, group activities, videos, documentaries and movies, interventions of external experts.

Type of Assessment
During the course, the assessment of the learning will be done through questions, debates and exercises. The final exam will be oral.
Course program
The course will begin with a presentation of the theoretical basis of intercultural communication, presenting the concepts of culture, acculturation and intercultural. In order to give examples of the intercultural encounter, the course will focus the specific forms taken by the East-West relationships. The course will then introduce the concept of Orientalism/Occidentalism in both historical and contemporary perspective and the actual implication of such an issue. For this we will consider the classical work of Edward Said and the recent esay of -jean Ziegler. The course will then focus on the intercultural dialogue as a political, educational and communicational perspective.
