Course Content
Through some key-topics, the course will reconsider the main steps in the development of present-day philosophy. Pages from texts which marked the history of philosophy in the 20th century will be read and discussed, with reference to language, scientific methodology and ethics. The main features of analytical, hermeneutical and neo-historicistic aprroach will be identified in order to under stand the issues in front of our culture.

Reading and commentary to pages from works by Frege, Russell, Wittgestein, Carnap, Popper, Quine, Piaget, Gadamer, Chomsky, Feyerabend, Dummett e Putnam. Analytic philosophy: rise and fall. Hermenutics: rise and fall. Basic notions of mathematical logic. Syntax, semantics and pragmatics. Cognitive development and the faculty of language. Philosophy of mind. History of science and philosophy of science. Different ways of looking at human knowledge. Empiricism and rationalism. Enlightenment and its enemies. The role of scientific culture for democracy. Case analysis in relation to the state do scientific education in Italy.The problem of scientific communication
